Has anyone managed to do this?

Just asking since I know a lot of people here are writers who are dependent on Word...

You're better off using OpenOffice, I think. It should work fine on W8.

Nope. I use OpenOffice because unlike Word it works, it's free, and I don't have to pirate anything. Also, I don't know many people who use Word outside of their offices, is it still really common on personal computers?

It's pretty common, especially if you're a student (generally there are package discounts.)

it's also legally good as long as I possess this computer, even after I graduate

Yes. I actually almost never hear of someone not having it on their personal computer. Just about everyone I know has some form of it, and it's always surprising to find out someone doesn't, it's just that rare.

Open Office or Libre Office?

Open Office or Libre Office? Which is better? I've only used Open Office. My laptop did not come with Word (well, it came with a "starter" but asks me to buy the real thing whenever I try to open a document, and what I have has very limited functions)

Have you tried OpenOffice? I like it so much better than Word.
