And feeling rejected is totally normal, I think. You thought you had an opportunity for a friend, and you missed it. As long as you're not blaming her, I don't think it's irrational.
Don't be so hard on yourself. People make mistakes, and this is (not to downplay how you feel about it, but) just awkwardness. It's not like you defensively called her a prude, or anything. Everyone's awkward sometimes.
