Also agreed - especially with episode 2.

I think the main reason I was able to catch it so easily is because I've been snowed in for four days and basically marathoned Sherlock over and over so it was all fresh from the beginning. I noticed a very slight hesitation in his brain "check-list" when he looked over Mary the first time, and it was like he forced himself to stop when he got to a certain point, something he hadn't really done before as far as we viewers know.

It seemed odd and out of character, even if he was trying to spare John's feelings, because he's admitted himself that he doesn't exactly have the ability to stop himself from saying hurtful things to people (even if not in so many words). I can also understand Sherlock's worry that John would leave him after the marriage, but that still doesn't explain why he was suddenly so accepting of her when he's usually so aloof with everyone else.

And yeah, her abilities and immediate acceptance of Sherlock in return were weird, too. Sure, she may have just liked him to please John, and that would have been cool of her. But the way she just immediately jumped to his defense after coming back from the dead was very fishy indeed. They had never met before!

Annnd...I have not had anyone else to talk with about any of this, so you were my ear there. Sorry.

No, me too. I haven't had anyone to discuss this with.

I liked the scene where they're doing the seating for the wedding because with hindsight, Sherlock knows, but Mary doesn't know he knows. So it's a lot funnier second time around. First time round, it's just odd and a bit woobiefying that Sherlock is getting so involved.

There's that whole part where Sherlock asks Mary if she wants to know who hates her on the wedding guest list. He finds this amusing because he knows Mary is not playing herself. So they're hating a fake person. It's the kind of thing that tickles his sense of humour. But Mary doesn't know that Sherlock knows yet, so she's assessing his offer for a moment to see what it really means.

The first time it plays like Sherlock's just being his usual socially inept/uncaring self. The second time it is much funnier. And sweeter, as Sherlock is genuinely trying to amuse Mary, rather than just making a thoughtless offer.
