Are you terrified in a fun way or an actually-interfering-with-your-life way?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-02 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's just say I'm not so eager to look at photos anymore. Or videos. Or to look more than a few feet above the ground when I'm out and about. Or to look out windows...or out of the corner of my eye...or at anything...at all...ever. [curls up in a ball]

I did have a dream just last night though, where I successfully got away by using an amnesiac before it caught up to me. Not sure where I'd get one of those (in the dream I worked for the Foundation - it was actually a pretty cool dream, other than the time I spent terrified of somehow "remembering" the face and getting the thing upset again), but wondering whether that would work is at least distracting.

You might want to look into doing something about that, then? I don't know if you're in a position where therapy's practical, but if it's interfering with your life that much...

(Anonymous) 2014-02-03 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'll mention it to my therapist...might as well, although I feel like I get more out of talking to people familiar with the material, because then I don't have to explain it all. I hate explaining. Feels like something always gets lost in translation when I try and put thoughts into words.

May fall under "increased anxiety" as far as my prescriber is concerned...

Aw god, yes. I love this kind of stuff. :<

(Anonymous) 2014-02-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh...why do you think I still read it even though I have such drastic emotional reactions? One of these days I'm really gonna fuck myself up...

I think I know where you're coming from

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-02-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The idea behind Slendy (that thinking makes him real and aware of you) is both simple and difficult to overcome (distract yourself, but you can't distract yourself when you're alone in the dark, can you?) whereas the idea behind Shy Guy is that you can trigger the rage of a creepy monster without even being aware that you've done so until he's killed you (and presumably everyone else who saw him on his way there).

Now, logically, tulpas don't exist (for whatever comfort that's worth). However, it's entirely possible for you to make somebody homicidally angry without you realizing it until they're literally in front of you with a knife. I think that's the idea that scares you more; it's more realistic.

Fridge brilliance. That might just be the root of it. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the probable subconscious roots of my issues, so when I couldn't figure it out I assumed I was just irrationally afraid of a story, but that makes a lot more sense...

Can someone please explain to me what this is?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-02 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I am seriously confused right now.

SCP-096 is a monster which kills anyone who sees its face.

SCP-096 is a character/monster from the online SCP Foundation stories ( http://www.scp-wiki.net/ )

Thank you for the link. I have never been to that site and it's really interesting.

Say goodbye to your life. That whole site is a black hole of interesting.

It's like the lovechild of TV Tropes and creepypasta.

Re: Can someone please explain to me what this is?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
And just like TV Tropes, they decided some time ago to have less fun, and anyone left who likes the way it used to be is afraid to say so.

Not that it's not still interesting, but the antics were what drew me in the first place. Got the best pages saved in case they purge 'em.

I've never seen the site before either but have just lost about 4 hours reading there. My main question about 096, though, is how do they manage to blur/block its face without seeing it? Is it meant to be a sort of fridge horror where you realize that everyone involved in editing the pictures or video of it / logged the images needed to make project SCRAMBLE basically chose to sacrifice their own lives to keep it from hurting others? Or did they trick someone into doing this? Ahhhhhhh

That's what they have D-class for!

Re: Can someone please explain to me what this is?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-03 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah, that's why they got the D-Class. People who were on Death Row who basically got recruited to guinea pigs to be thrown at SCPs to see what happens. They really don't last long.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-02 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I mostly am really, really creeped out by the soundfile in the SCP-087 game. The whole "Don't look at me" ... *shudders*

mostly unrelated but

(Anonymous) 2014-02-03 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
OP, or anyone else, where can I find this fandom? I need to geek out about it and the people on the site itself intimidate me with their having-known-each-other-since-the-beginning-ness.

Slenderman is't scary at all. 'Cause he wears a suit.

Shy Guy is fascinating Paranoia Fuel. I love SCP Foundation. :)
