Sure it makes sense. They brought the fandom to the front of your consciousness and provided additional fuel, subpar though you felt it was. The same thing happened to me.

Movies/shows don't have to be good to produce a rich fandom to play in.
elaminator: (The Hobbit: Dori & Fili - Call me maybe)

+1

Yup. Lots of fandoms produce excellent fanart and fanfic, sometimes better than the actual canon material. (But really taste is so subjective...it doesn't matter. If you like it, have fun with it.)

Yeah I mean, when you know which fandoms are the most popular on tumblr...

This is the best secret image I have ever seen in my life. It is pure glory.

Literally lol-ed at that picture.

Heh, I love those videos. I thought I'd get tired of them, but no. They're always beautiful, no matter for how many fandoms they're done.

I love this picture. It is GLORIOUS.

Anywho, you can like something without thinking it's very good. I mean, the so-bad-it's-good phenomenon is strong, though I wouldn't really attribute that to The Hobbit. More like The Room, or something like that.

So obviously, this picture is plastered on the gates of heaven to reassure people that they're headed to awesomeness. Right?

Same. It makes sense; the fandom has been revived. There's more fic, more fanart, more discussions. You don't have to like the new movies to enjoy the renewed fervor for Tolkien :D

Yeah. Someone I know said they weren't particularly good films, but he relished getting to spend more time in that world again. I like aspects of the films, especially the complexity in the characters than LOTR (mostly) lacks. But sometimes I have to wonder if Peter Jackson is serious with some of the OTT stuff he's done in the films and thank the lord he didn't make LOTR with the free reign he made The Hobbit with.
