Seriously. Starving in a garret For Your Art is only romantic if you're not the one starving. It's not fucking "classist" to give people who can afford it a peek at the comic a week early, it's monetizing your work and there is nothing wrong with that.

Boo fucking hoo, people who can't afford it have to wait a whole fucking week.

Good God, get over yourself, secret OP. I bet you think it's "classist" when people think that folks should pay for the media they consume instead of stealing it via torrents too.

b-b-but spoilers!!! truly this is the height of class discrimination when i might find out what happens in a fucking webcomic a little early

A lot of people seem to think that, actually. That's why I haven't even made a secret about it.

(Though I do think living in a different country where access is near impossible or something is another story.)

Though I do think living in a different country where access is near impossible or something is another story.

Agreed.

Paying a dollar/waiting a week is very different from waiting a year or more, or being restricted from access to the media due to not living in the country of origin.

(Then again, I'm biased, since in my country we often get American TV shows airing a year or so late, or not at all.)

Still think the OP is seriously overreacting, and being quite entitled. It's not like the creator of the webcomic is rolling around in money herself.

I have a lot of trouble getting American media anything like at the same time as America gets it, so I torrent, but I buy the DVD sets when they come out. It feels like it helps balance things out.

SA

Yeah, I ended up having to download a special app just to watch Hannibal online. But I loved the show so much I bought the DVD the second it appeared in stores.

Agreed. I've torrented a few things that I couldn't get right away and then bought them when they were available. I'd only feel bad if I didn't buy it later, though.

I'm surprised people weren't building barricades in the streets because PBS was airing Sherlock three weeks after the BBC did!

do you hear the fandom sing
singing a song of angry nerds
it is the music of a people who will not be spoiled again
when the beating of your keyboard
echoes the beating of the remotes
there are spoilers about to flood your dash
when sherlock is on telly

(i'm sorry)

No need to be sorry. This is cool and needs to be properly sung by somebody.

"I bet you think it's "classist" when people think that folks should pay for the media they consume instead of stealing it via torrents too."

When I hear about celebrities buying private islands and waterparks, I find it hard to feel sorry for them. It's different with artists who are actually poor, but not all torrenting is equally bad.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
except it's not just the celebrities who get hurt by piracy. it's the sound technicians and the lighting guys and the costume designers and all of the little people who don't earn anywhere near as much as the actors do.

How the fuck is this 'classist'? OMG PPL R DISCRIMINATING AGAINST MEEEE.

Note to OP: It's called capitalism. Jesus crap, what does classism even mean? Is it actual discrimination against poor people or is it just an excuse for twats like this to whine about how they're getting a comic, y'know, a little bit late?
