Yeah I definitely agree with you there, the main reason I like Loki is because he is such a fucking vicious little shit who is the root of his own problems but a lot of the time it's glossed over or he's written, softer? I guess is the only way I can think of describing it. And I can't really see that so a lot of the time it doesn't work for me.

I find asshole-redemption even more hit and miss than villain redemption. Either the character is written too nice to begin with or they're still far too mean by the end of it. This actually applies to my current fandom tbh because the character I love the most(Nick) is a huge dickbag but so few fics hit the sweet spot where he's still a git but clearly cares for his team.
