He's just so gosh-darn likable.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
He looks like he's been rode hard and put away wet.

So...he doesn't look like a model? Oh dear. He looks like a normal human. Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
He looks 10 to 20 years older than he really is, but that's ok.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
...eh? Oh, right, the teenagers on Tumblr hated the 'stache as much as Sherlock did. Yeah. The flailing hate was...something to see. And blot out from your mind immediately.

An "electric jolt" OP, really? Because the number of times this scenario repeats (over and over and over and over and over and over...ahem), I would think you now feel as though you've been electrocuted.

Oh that was an insult? Somehow I interpreted it as a kink thing.

at times, yeah. the hell does that have to do with his likability? you only like pretty people? saints preserve us.

Strangely enough, it does nothing for me. I'm just completely not interested in him as a man. Yet, I do love the series.

Is the feeling confused arousal? If so, I feel you OP.

I love characters in peril (and the people trying to save them).

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer him when he's spraining people like a BAMF, but peril is fun to.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I wish they made him a bit more BAMF - always being the one hauled off I would have loved him to kick a bit more ass.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Did you see the beginning of the last episode?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! and that just made me wish for it harder for the previous episodes (and for all future episodes). I seriously loved the face that Sherlock makes when seeing John has a pipe pulled out of his coat along with the knife.

I mean, yeah - its mostly focused on Sherlock so I understand that John is the mirror to reflect his brilliance - I just wish they showed case MORE of Watson's skill set as both a soldier and doctor.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
It reminds me of the comments made about ACD canon regarding how Watson must be a reasonably smart man to have become a doctor and published writer, so if he looks not-so-smart sometimes, it's only because Holmes is so brilliant that he makes even a smart man like Watson look dumb in comparison. This leads to the cliche of Stupid Watson. With BBC!John, the same issue arises with BAMFness. John is pretty badass, but he looks like a damsel in distress compared to the even greater badassery of his wife and best friend. This leads to everyone thinking of him as a damsel in distress. Poor John!

I guess this also sort of makes him the Worf of the show, where you know the threat is serious when they can get the drop on John.

Most of Martin Freeman's characters make such good damsels in distress, it's like it's his personal schtick or something

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure his schtick is watch the world explode while looking exasperated at it. I suppose that combines well with being forced to be passive when that happens.

Now that you've mentioned it I realise that passiveness is the one characteristic that stands out in all of his characters

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
He did literally play a damsel in distress in the bodyswap drama "Boy Meets Girl"...

I only just watched that movie recently. If constipation were a visual, it would be "The Room."

Now I want a BBC Sherlock crossover with The Room where Tommy is Moriarty.
