Underrepresentation. In pretty much any fandom.

you sound white, cis, and straight.

I'm using the meme, but you really really do.

If that thought makes you feel better, nonny.

I'm going to say that I'm tired of hearing the word "cis" in any sentence that is not about chemistry or music theory.

SAME.

As an under-represented minority sometimes I get sick of it too. Fandom is supposed to be my escape from that shit, and at least half the people talking about it don't really know what they're talking about and end up spreading misinformation and/or are just saying it to look good.

See, this is why they need to start putting aliens back into SF. Because back in the day no one wanted to read about ANY humans when we were reading SF.

Seriously. There needs to be a safety on the reblog button.

This might matter more if it wasn't just us white, cis straight people sick of hearing about why we shouldn't like something.

Alas, Minorities can hold a majority opinion.

I'm pretty tired of it too. Can't wait until there's not a reason to hear about it.

The thing that makes me annoyed is that underrepresentation automatically equals bad and that representation automatically equals good to a lot of people, when that's not necessarily the case. Great movies can have bad representation and vice versa. I think it's a good thing to talk about, but it's not necessarily the ultimate marker of quality.

That's interesting. I haven't really seen much of that but you're not the only one here saying that it happens. I don't see much "this would be better if it had poc/queer people/whatever". What I do see is "I would like this better if it had poc/queer people/whatever" which to me is different.

I completely agree that representation and quality are two different things that don't have much to do with each other. I can sympathize with people who care more about representation than quality though (for me it depends on my mood).

I agree with this, especially the part about representation not always being good quality. Representation just for the sake of representation is a bit silly and can be condescending. Personally, I think inaccurate portrayals, stereotyping, othering, etc., are more problematic than underrepresentation.

That's exactly the kind of "representation" the SJWs want, though. Because they are actually all the things they accuse others of being.
