Sometimes it irrationally annoys me when people say they prefer a side character over main characters. It's irrational but I think, Why are you bothering watching? Of course, that's probably because I've dropped loads of shows because the minor character I loved wasn't featured prominently enough to make it worth my time.

Maybe because liking a side character more doesn't mean not liking the main character?

I don't really get this?

Just because a few of my favorite characters are secondaries doesn't mean that I hate those shows or the main characters. I still like the protagonists; I just happen to like someone else more.

Now me, I rarely if ever like main characters because we're in their headspace, to one degree or another. There's not as much mystery to them, their motivations or their actions. And since I prefer characters who keep me wondering after I've turned off the TV or closed the book, side characters are the way to go.

That said, I totally read Blue Exorcist for Konekomaru and Shima :D
