It's weird to me, because half the time they feel like their race should be a non-issue (ESPECIALLY in European fantasy stories where the cast is white and they argue it's a fantasy world, why can't there be more PoC, etc), but then, if it is, it's not actually going to make it better if someone is PoC unless their character is changed to include it, in which case you are asking for a story and characterization change. Gender and sexuality, at least, I think can be given more subtext even if they remain on the surface the same, but when it comes to 'I see no reason this character can't be black because it's a fantasy world', it definitely doesn't.
