Re: Stuff in fandom/fandoms you're tired of hearing about.
If you like white male characters you're wrong.
If you slash white male characters you're wrong.
If you got drawn to a character by their looks (especially if it's a white male) you're wrong.
If you're a straight female who ships the typical things straight females stereotypically ship you are so damn wrong.
And for movie adaptions of books: They changed it, now it sucks!
Re: Stuff in fandom/fandoms you're tired of hearing about.
(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes they change it and it DOES suck. Sometimes they change it and it's as good. And sometimes they change it and it's arguably better than the original, at least in certain ways (I get yelled at for thinking this about V for Vendetta the movie vs the comic).
Conversely, sometimes they don't change it and it sucks, because what works in print really, really doesn't on screen.
And sometimes they change it and it's a completely different beast that only bears passing resemblance to the original, and you're wondering if you count this as 'changed and now REALLY sucks' or 'changed and now pretty good but I've no idea what it is' or 'did they actually read the original?' or 'they didn't change it, they just named something else by the same name'.
So I'm okay with people saying 'they changed it, now it sucks', provided they've got a rationale for saying it. You know?
