kallanda_lee: (Mystique Mirror)

You're like my polar opposite. I dislike cyclops, always liked Wolverine, and though Jean would have been potentially for more interesting without ever having been with Cyke.

But Mystique tops all?
kallanda_lee: (Default)

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-02-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Actually I think Mystique is an ambiguous character, and I don't actually always like her, but I do think she's interesting.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's like you're in my mind reading my thoughts.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I was never a comics reader but Cyclops was definitely my favourite in the films. Damn you Marsden, being adorable and charming even with your gorgeous baby blues hidden.

I can't imagine how anyone can be indifferent towards Wolverine. He's so... prominent, he's everywhere, and he does a whole lot of provocative stuff. I can't stand him.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like this comment would be even better if "I can't stand him" were on a separate line, with preferably three or four blank lines in between.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Boring secret. Perhaps you should take lessons from 6.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I can see why liking Cyclops can be a secret, but not liking Jean or Wolverine isn't, really.

Anyway, let's share my opinion, which no one asked: I used to really dislike Cyke (guess part of it was the cartoon's fault) but since I've read his X-Factor stuff I like him. Never liked Jean, but she had some good moments in the same comic. I've always loved Wolverine - though these days I rarely like how they write him.
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Angry SW)

I was always fond of cartoon Cyclops but comic Cyclops I find hit or miss(mostly miss tbh). I liked Wolverine more before he was everywhere, for me he's been so overused that I would honestly like him to go away for a bit, especially in the movies. I like Jean a lot too but part of that is because I like her power-set.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I feel pretty much the same as you do. Especially with Wolverine because it's not just the cartoons and movies but the comics are also obsessed with him when I feel like the comics don't need him to be a staple character the way those other mediums do. The last time I went on an X-men comic binge I got really Wolverined-out.
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Angry SW)

[personal profile] nightscale 2014-02-06 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's all over the place and while I don't mind him there has just been too much in recent years.
cloud_riven: Actor Terry Kinney's bald head sliding up and down from behind a hotdog. (Bosco/Hot Dog = OTP)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2014-02-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Someone actually likes Cyclops? Ew.

Just teasing, though I also wished you had something more scandalous to go along with the secret.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I only know Cyclops through the movies, Joss Whedon's run on Astounding X-Men, and the Evolution cartoon, so I've always found him kind of charming in an earnest, dorky, wholesome sort of way. I'm sure there's things in the comics that would make me think he's as much of a douchebag as most people seem to, but for extended-universe Cyclops, I just don't get the hate.

Everybody on this thread is crazy, all three of them are awesome. But mostly Jean.

Ha, I do enjoy that cartoon.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I love them all and I am happy for any reminder that they exist <3

(even when they are badly written, which is lots)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have this dislike for Cyclops because of the very, very early comics. I got into this weird phase a number of years ago where I decided I needed to read EVERY X-MEN COMIC EVER MADE (that ended kind of fast, because whoa), so I started from issue 1, and omg. The whining. It's an endless string of "whoa is me I have lasers for eyes I can never have a relationship! But I love Jean! Oh Jean, oh Jean, I pine for you, oh Jean, but we can never be together due to the aforementioned LASER EYES! *sob sob sob*"

So, yeah. I find myself unable to separate any future iterations of him from that.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much every prominent character in every Marvel comic in the 60s. since you were reading X-Men only, you didn't notice. And why whoa? Lots o people read old comics and lots o people read X-Men rom either 60s #1 or second Genesis. (My keyboard is faulty, I apologize)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries!

I meant "whoa" in the sense that I realized that reading every single X-Men comic ever was a bit overambitious. 50 years of material is a damn lot (although at the time it was about 45 years, but still), and I kind of got overwhelmed after a while! So I eventually decided to pare it down to the major arcs.

That is a good point, though. I'm not too familiar with the other comics from that time period, but the little that I do know would indicate that you're correct. It was the trope of the time, it seems. Still annoying and unattractive, ha!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
I always hates cyc as a boring boy scout until Whedon/Ellis got their hands on him in astonishing. Then he shot right to the top of my "Favorite Xman" list (Then marvel hit the great slump not long after that and ruined it all by IdiotAsshole!Cyc)

Wolvie was always cool, but I always found him more interesting when he's playing the big brother type. ImmaFuckYoWife!Wolvie bored me.

On the subject of being bored TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth!Jean was so fucking dull that even the various psudo-infidelities she committed as herself and the mass murders and genocides she committed as Pheonix couldn't spark up any interest for me.

"I know you blew up a sun killing billions, but it wasn't you, it was the phoenix force!"
"Actually, Scott, it was me"
"Whut?"
"I didn't like those planets, the people had blue skin"
"But..."
"They were racially impure"
"Ok, well..."
"The universe had to be cleansed of them."
"I'm leaving you for Emma"

THAT would have given her something of interest other than being "The Good Girl" Make her something other than just a red headed version of Sue Storm from the FF.

Also, I love Emma. Much more interesting character, a bit of moral ambiguity. Love redeeming rather than love just making he more awesome and pure. Emma and Scott make a wonderful couple as far as I'm concerned... until they made Scott more evil than her. Then I just had to wonder what she was bringing to the relationship.

I find it interesting also that al the big villains in marvel comics these days are super heros. Anyone else tired of this trend of "I'm acting out of character so we can have a villain that comes pre wrapped with it's own sympathetic motivation?" What happened to good writing that made characters like magneto seem more understandable that he first seemed?" Why is it always "Well people already like this guy, so we'll have him act like a villain and make everyone conflicted and shit."

Wow OP, Good secret. made me TLDR. Nice thought provoking secret. well done.
