Out of curiosity, is his accent considered good? (the British one, I mean.) I don't have the best ear for that stuff, so I'm always impressed by people who learn an accent well.

There were a couple of "OH GOD NO" moments but for the most part he sounded like he came from some where near where I live.

You could argue that since he's like over 100 years old and lived around the world, his accent wouldn't be exactly as it was originally.

Considering the flashback episode that showed he was dorky upperclass guy before he was turned, with a classy RP accent, and his accent in most of the show was far more cockney, then yes, his accent was definitely not what it was originally.

I agree, well that is I get it. It was more a opinion, like how he said lilac, made me cringe.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God yes that. It's not the greatest accent but I don't mind it but the lilac thing just throws me out completely

Most people say so. There'll be a few dissenters who say it's terrible, but for the most part, he's agreed to be pretty solid.

(Bit of trivia - Tony Head also wasn't using his natural accent in the show, and it was his real accent that Spike's was based on.)

I like you.

Sometimes while filming buffy whenyou saw Tony Head on tv his English accent was cringe worthy because he'd be trying to hard too sound like himself.

As a British person, yes. I thought he actually was British too for a long time while watching Buffy because his accent is so convincing.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
As another British person, it was obviously put on. So there we go.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-07 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking as a North American, though? His imitation of a Brit doing a bad imitation of an American accent ("I'm just an old pal of Xander's here") was SPOT ON.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
In his first season it could be shaky at times but was generally pretty good, and he pretty much perfected it throughout the course of the role

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Not bad, but slips quite a bit. Plus the scriptwriters don't get British slang right.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's OK, in Torchwood he has an odd accent, it sounds American but at times you wonder if he's trying to sound British, some odd pronunciations.
