DW notification change?

a few weeks ago DW reset my notifications so my inbox started filling up. I don't really use my inbox, I just go straight to email. I was still getting the email notifs though.

A couple days ago, I fixed it, and then realized I wasn't getting email notifs.

So I went back and tried to re-enable email notifs. Still nothing. Looked back, and realized based on the way the boxes were arranged, that there didn't appear to be an option anymore for email notifs on comment threads.

Is this a new thing or......? I want my notifications back ;__;

As far as I can tell there's no longer a way to just get notifications to your email; if you get them sent to email they go to your inbox too.

It's been like this (for me at least)...maybe for a couple months? Can't remember when I noticed it but I agree that it's annoying as hell. :(

Yeah, interestingly, I switched it back on for inbox a few minutes ago and I got the notif for this in my email. wtf DW...

It's pretty annoying. Thanks for the heads up though. I wish they'd change it back too! :/

It's an odd change and I'm not sure why they went with it. I know a lot of people on DW use email notifications; it's super convenient, but to have them appear in both places isn't necessary for me.

Oh well...

Maybe they'll go back to giving us the option in a later update.

Hope so! Hopefully they've gotten a lot of feedback about it. (And hopefully they won't turn into the next LJ by ignoring said feedback...)

Yes, the option for email-only notifs is being worked on. No ETA though.

It happens to me too, and I've looked all through the settings a few times now. I use Gmail via Thunderbird, which gives me a popup notification. Why do we need dual notifications? I really fail to see how it benefits anyone.

So fricking annoying. I want my inbox only for pms!

ita. It sucks because the fuller the inbox gets, the less likely I'm going to want to look through it for anything that *isn't* a duplicate notif. I actually missed a PM a few weeks ago because of it...maybe more...I should go clean it out...

They sent out a huge thing in their news bulletin saying as much. It's happened to everyone. I'm in the same boat as you. Pretty much they rewrote an entire thingy* and that caused them to be unable to differentiate between the two options. They said they're working on fixing this.

*Cower at my expert knowledge.

ahhhhh yeah. I probably didn't read it because by the time I saw that my inbox had more messages it was buried in dozens of new messages from the notifs and I didn't feel like going through it... >_>; Thanks for the info!

This happened because the coders are working toward email-only notifs IIRC. Because of how the site was coded back in the LJ days and all the legacy coding that needs updating (it's a complicated issue), the coders had to recode the part that sends notifs to both inbox and email before separate email-only notifs can be recoded and enabled.

It has been a while since I read about this issue in updates. I think it's in either dw-news or dw-maintanence. FOUND THE THREAD! :D
