Yuri anime/manga recs?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Since it's Femslash February and all. I like pretty much every genre, but I have a soft spot for slice-of-life and fantasy.

Maka-Maka is my favorite yuri manga. It's about two girls who are friends and also bang a lot and it is just really cute and hot with nice art. Unfortunately, it's out of print in English. :c

Sakura Trick's airing atm.

Basically there's legitmate kisses at least twice an episode and cute SOL for the rest of it.

I recently read one called Cirque Arachne. It's about two circus performers who fall in love. It's pretty short, but it's sweet.

Mononoke Girls Academy was pretty fun, although it's kinda NSFW.

I would also recommend Sailor Moon, because I always recommend Sailor Moon :P It's not specifically a yuri work, but it has several lesbian characters. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are the most famous, but Mars and Venus are also heavily implied to be attached in the last arc of the manga, and they're always draped all over each other in artbook pictures.

Also Revolutionary Girl Utena, which is great for a mindfuck. It's often surreal and symbolic, and there's lots of rewatch value--I've been watching it every year since I was about 14 and I still find something new every time I watch.

I liked Love Flicker by Takemiya Jin (http://www.mangago.com/read-manga/love_flicker/), MOST of Haru Natsu Aki Fuyu by Eiki Eiki (http://www.mangago.com/read-manga/haru_natsu_aki_fuyu/) (chapters 2, 7 & 12 are kind of weird about sexuality and contain non-con), and Strawberry Shake by Hayashiya Shizuru (http://www.mangago.com/read-manga/strawberry_shake/). Seconding Maka Maka. If you like fantasy, you may like Miyuki-chan in Wonderland by CLAMP (http://www.mangago.com/read-manga/fushigi_no_kuni_no_miyuki_chan/) though it's my understanding that it's not necessarily yuri so much as femslashy.

Card Captor Sakura by CLAMP was also pretty femmeslashy. God, I could relate to Tomoyo so much.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Morinaga Milk yet. I love her yuri stuff. Girlfriends was like the perfect high school lesbian angst-fest
