28: Jupiter has a solid core, and trumps Pluto mass-wise. Also, we've seen more gas exoplanets than terrestrial exo planets. Gas planets most likely outnumber terrestrial planets, so your clever "solid surface" argument doesn't hold water, sry2say.

It's like this: Once upon a time, astronomists found a small round thing floating in space. "Hark!" they said. "A new planet!" They named it Ceres. After that, they found a another planet, which they named Pallas. And another one named Vesta. And then they kept finding more and more little rocks in space in roughly the same orbit as Ceres & Co. were. "Oops", the astronomers said. "Ceres is just a rather large rock among a shitpile of smaller rocks. That's not very planet-y." So they called the rocks "asteroids" and all was well.

The same thing happened to Pluto. They found a round rock in space, went "Squee, a new planet!", then they found a shitload of other rocks where there should be an empty orbit for Pluto.

Really, Pluto is more closer to a comet than a planet. Wonky orbit, composed mostly of ice... if Pluto orbited closer to the sun, it would form a tail, like a true comet. Not very planet-y.

You're having a hissy-fit because you're used to thinking of Pluto as a planet. Unfortunately, astronomy doesn't give two shits about your comfort. That's the job of medicine and psychology.

b-but you're having a hissyfit over a secret about someone missinbg pluto, so i dont think you can really talk here.

also, pluto ftw. ;_; i liked it because it was the underdog planet.

PLUTO #1 LOL

i was more just standing up for the OP, actually. i thought saya_aensland was being rude and taking the secret too seriously. :B

He/She is pretty calm for someone having a hissyfit.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS AL;KDJF;H.

I go to New Mexico State University and people literally PICKETED Pluto losing planetary status because Tombaugh worked here for a while (after discovering pluto, mind you). They said it "belittled" his discovery. I'm like really? Tombaugh was a scientist and would therefore understand that unlike some other things I could name, Science is not set in stone the instant somebody decides to write it down.

RAGE is right.
