Psst, if you're looking for quality fic in anime fandom you're looking in the wrong place.

You clearly haven't looked very hard if that's what you think.

DA

I actually mostly agree, with the exception of very large anime fandoms. Anime fandoms just don't churn out a lot of fic in comparison to the art, and K Project seemed to be especially bad.

This.

What a silly generalization. Of course there are good anime fics because, just like everything else, there's a lot of bad and a few good mixed in.

i like when people put OOC warnings in their description so it lets me know in advance not to read their fic

(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather it were warned for than not.

But I still want to know why anybody does that. If you want to write original fic, why not do it openly instead of spamming a fandom with fic that's not really about the characters people want to read about?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, sometimes an idea or scenario gets into your head and your brain just latches onto it and will not let go. Maybe it's whacky, cracky, or a little bit odd but wholly OOC and you need to let it out in fic or art. So you do. You know it's OOC, and usually most people realize that and know that you don't believe that particular character(s) are anywhere near being IC. To be on the safe side, you label it as OOC in case someone comes along and gives your work the stinkeye because OMG OOC! It's just something you had to get out, and it becomes a running fanon joke that most folks don't take seriously.

And that's okay.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much this. My friends and I sometimes write fics for each other that spring from joking around with each other about the characters and it's impossible to write those scenarios IC. So we write them and label them OOC so anyone who comes across it won't get upset by surprise OOC-ness and amongst ourselves we enjoy the hell out of the fics.

K!

Yay! My favourite thing at the moment! I've read a few good fics on AO3, but I'll admit none of them were Yata-centric. There was a good Fushimi-centric one with a heavy focus on Yata (as you'd expect) that I found was IC, but as far as I can remember it was just the one. I agree with you about the lack of good characterisation, especially if it's a Sarumi fic, (though my not shipping Sarumi might have something to do with how I see those), and putting 'OOC' in the summary is dumb.

Still, in case you haven't come across it and it sounds interesting to you:

I welcome any recs for good SCEPTER4 centric fic!

I feel you, anon. Fushimi/Yata is my OTP at the moment but finding fic that doesn't have one or both of them OOC can be a task. I am very not a fan of Rapist!Fushimi and WeepyUke!Yata.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
I have yet to find any doujinshi for them that is not dubcon at best if it's remotely IC.

It's like no one even wants to TRY tackling what would be a very rewarding relationship if an author worked hard enough to make it work.

My rule with K doujins is I don't buy anything where Yata looks either super young or super girly, because those pretty much never end well. I've actually started picking up a lot of Misaru stuff recently because it at least tends to be more openly consensual.

I've written a couple K fics -- the one the anon linked above is actually one of mine -- and I really love Fushimi and Yata's relationship, I think they have a great dynamic that I really wish more authors would make use of instead of sticking with Stalker Seme Fushimi and Virgin Uke Yata.

THIS THIS THIS

Sarumi is my favorite pairing and dammit, I hate rapist!Fushimi with all my soul. And weepy!Yata is so OOC I just want to stab me in the heart or something.

I also dislike when people do reunion fics and make Saruhiko forget ~everything~ and just move on, when he's clearly a character that has got many issues and wouldn't go blindly after Misaki just after everything that happened
