(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)But I cannot deal with a book that posits that Holmes was the kind of person who would look at a man who was his friend for decades, who saved his life more than once and risked his life, reputation, and freedom for him innumerable times, who looked after his health when no one else was around, who got him off drugs and helped him stay that way, who lived with him and spoke to him when no one else would, who recognized his talents when everyone else sneered and stole the credit, who gave him the fame needed to achieve that level of influence and power to help people, who gave up most of his career to help him, who dedicated the better part of his life to him -- and see just an extra pair of hands.
The irony, I guess, is that King's unintentional character assassination of Holmes is a hundred times worse than her character assassination of Watson.
