Thankfully my parents were never like that. My grandmother on the other hand...

And gym teachers were the worst. Being made to run the mile every semester with everyone despite the fact that I had an asthma attack every time and had to go to the hospital a couple of them. Being told I was lazy when I clearly couldn't breathe.

My mom is generally cool, but she always had weird ideas about medicine. Basically that nothing is an actual condition with a medical solution if there's even the slightest chance that it can be construed as something else. Unless she becomes convinced that there's something wrong with you. Then you are obviously DYING!!1! Even if you're fine and just have a cold or a swollen gland or something.

She's gotten better over the years, though.

My grandmother suggested to my parents that I get gastric bypass surgery when I was in high school. And I was only slightly above the normal BMI for my height at the time. She has serious issues with weight. She goes on diets all the time herself even though she has not an ounce of fat on her bones and has said more than once that it would be useful for everyone to lose weight.

My parents both had their own health issues (my dad had cluster migraines that didn't get diagnosed until college in part because of the above grandmother), so they understand and believe me when I'm sick. We're kind of just a family of health issues. My sister has celiac.
