Your kinks are not your politics.

I love smoking in fic, and I can still see the appeal of occasional social smoking in real life. But as a life-long habit, yeah, I can't stand it, either.

I actually have this issue a lot - namely, for the longest time I loved jealous and possessive romantic partners in fanfic, but hated it in real life. (Now I don't care much about it in fanfic, mostly because it tends to be out-of-character more often than not for my current main fandom).

Reminds me, there was a fic a while back of all the Avengers smoking, and now I want to find it...

Try working with people in the end stage of lung cancer and then come back and tell me how sexy smoking is.
