Yes, I know the book said he had "eyebrows the stuck out past the brim of his hat" but come on, no one actually has eyebrows like that.

If his eyebrows had stuck out past the brim of his hat, it would have to be an exceptionally tiny brim, or it would be a horrifying sight to behold.

Yeah, I think things like that have to be liberally translated. Get the spirit right and you can accept lines like that as hyperboles that convey how bushy his brows are.
