Clark Gable was the perfect Rhett Butler.

Johnathan Taylor Thomas was a good Tom Sawyer.

+1 to Clark Gable.

And kudos to you! I'm always happy when people actually remember that earlier era of stars - Clark Gable was an icon. And he was the overwhelming choice for the role before the film was cast.

Everyone in that film was perfectly cast, but I think he was the only one that the public imagined in the role before it was cast.

It was a gorgeous film. My only complaint is that Scarlett cries in almost every scene.

The costumes are gorgeous. I always wanted a dress like the green and white one. All poofy and frilly.

There's no way you read the book before at least SEEING Clark Gable as Rhett!

Yes way. My mother had a hardback copy that she gave me to read when I was 11. When I finished reading the book she rented the movie for me and we watched it together.
