Uh, OP said the instruments turn into animals, not vice versa. Peter and the Wolf is a viable guess based on OP's fuzzy childhood memory and the limited information.

OP wrote about Beethoven and that instruments turn into animals. Peter and the Wolf is not about Beethoven and the animals there are only represented by different instruments.
I don't thinks that's a viable guess.
It doesn't help how chardmonster was phrasing her question at OP.

Dude, really? Fuzzy childhood memory could mean OP is confusing "Beethoven" with classical sounding music in Peter and the Wolf. Fuzzy childhood memory could mean OP is confusing "being turned into animals" with being represented by animals. You are being obtuse. You never thought you remembered something from childhood one way and then it turned out turned out you were mistaken?
