Re: sort of reliable Myer Briggs test?
This might help:

The I/E does tend to be the hardest to pin down. One possible way to look at it: after you've been at a party/gathering for a while, are you ready to go home and relax, or are you revved up and looking forward to spending more time with people? (Assume you went into the party well-rested to begin with).
The P/J one is a little easier: when making plans, do you prefer to have concrete plans and settled details, or do you like to leave your options open?
Re: sort of reliable Myer Briggs test?
To me, that seems like _N_P behavior. I've kind of noticed that regardless of what the other letters are, a lot of people in that category like to figure out what's going on so they can wing it more efficiently. Maybe especially if they're also Ts?
Re: sort of reliable Myer Briggs test?
Anyway! Regardless of the middle two letters, though, some other ways to address them both.
For the I/E one, let's try from the other direction: do you enjoy being alone? If you are alone at home, do you relax, or do you need to distract yourself? Another angle (less reliable, but still useful): during brief moments of boredom (i.e. waiting in line), is it easy for you to mentally drift off and engage yourself (day dream, work on a problem, make a plan, etc)? Or do you find yourself starting to look to your immediate surroundings to try and engage yourself or find something to hold your attention?
As for the P/J one - that's actually pretty much what I do. (Right down to the bus-stops!) In that, though, I would say you probably lean towards P - especially if you are NT, though not necessarily so. While you do plan ahead, it's with the ultimate goal of keeping your options open and doing what you want. (i.e. if I have a long plane ride, I'll bring along a lot of books and other paper-ish things to do, so that I can choose between them during the flight). I identify more internally with INTJ, though I am ultimately more INTP. (I plan things, I just don't stick to those plans).
If you're still unsure, another method of looking at it: when you have a task, do you rush to complete it, or procrastinate? Or, do you tend to work methodically, or in bursts of activity?
