What if they choose diet because they like the taste better? I used to do that before I discovered that I prefer other drinks.

I've found that a lot of people genuinely like that chemically aftertaste.

Personally, I can't stand it and can detect even a little of it in drinks that are partially sweetened with other things, but hey. People like what they like!

I agree with you there, I can't even stand stevia as a sweetener because sugar is my baseline for "Sweet".

DIET SODA IS LITERALLY THE CONCEPT OF HALF ASSING CONCEPTUALIZED INTO SOME RIDICULOUSLY MARKETABLE BUSINESS CAMPAIGN THAT WORKED BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE FUCKING WORST COMMITMENT ISSUES WHEN IT COMES TO DIETING AND BEING HEALTHY. IT PISSES ME OFF TO KNOW THAT BECAUSE THERE'S SO MANY HALF-ASSERS ON THIS GAY EARTH, THE GODDAMN DIET COKE IS THE SECOND BEST SELLING SODA EVER. IF YOU WANT TO DIET, DRINK FUCKING ICE COLD WATER. YOU'RE GETTING NEGATIVE CALORIES AND ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST, IF NOT THE HEALTHIEST, LIQUID AND YOU'RE PUTTING THAT SUCKER INTO YOUR SHITSACK OF A BODY. I'll take aspartame (which I have no reaction to) and caffeine over enough sugar to skyrocket my blood sugar or having to take painkillers to deal with my chronic-but-mild headaches,

I can't stand regular soda because it's just too cloyingly sweet to me. Diet soda has just the right amount of sweetness without a syrupy aftertaste, so I'll always choose it over regular.
