Thank you for this secret. People who are proud of their nostalgia are so annoying, just. 'Gen 1 pokémon were the best, everything after that is shit', 'have u seen the new powerpuff girl design ugh it's so ugly 2000's kids will never understand', 'games today are so easy and shallow they were so much better before people cared about the graphics'. So annoying.

People who are super proud of being 90s kids seem to be especially obnoxious about those sort of things.

Ugh, kids these days are so obsessed with graphics. They don't know what it's like to play a game that required strategy and skill.

I don't know, while some of Gen 1's Pokemon are ugly and could have been excised, I think the biggest problem with subsequent Generations is there was less cuts. They had to have a certain amount, so even poorly designed Pokemon remained in. I think the first Generation unambiguously has the strongest designs (for Pokemon--later Gym Leaders and so on get better).

There may have been less cuts, but gen 1 had its share of weaker designs

I did say that, didn't I? And for me, it's less about weak designs, because I can handle that in between more complex and unique ones. It adds variety. It's just the kind of stupid designs like Mr Mime and Jynx.
