Well, what are you doing?

Though, I find it to be VERY hard to make friends on tumblr. The website is not really designed for it.

I tried the subltle approach, with reblogging and faving stuff, following them and tagging things. I've also sent asks just asking about things they've posted. It sucks because my fandom is on tumblr. I've also seen people make friends on tumblr and it's all on my dash, so it looks like the site is just rubbing it in my face.

That's a start, but tbh I don't think it's going to work for making friendships. LOTS of people follow, reblog and fave stuff on tumblr without ever speaking a single word to you. It's like someone friending you on Facebook and liking your posts, it's all passive and doesn't actually open up a dialogue.

Unfortunately, I think tumblr's a really poor place to try and hold a conversation. You can do it if you're determined, but it's more of a pain in the ass.

The thing about Tumblr is it's a good way to meet people, but in terms of actual friendships and stuff - you don't do that on Tumblr. You find other ways to talk (i.e. arranging to chat on Facebook or on some other kind of medium).
