Does anyone know . . .

(Anonymous) 2014-02-15 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
. . . where I can find music similar to "Misty Mountain" as sung by the Dwarves in The Hobbit. To clarify: a cappella male group without the higher voice types. I love dark, minor songs, especially as sung in the lower registers and I really adored this song but I have trouble finding stuff that's similar to it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sorry that I don't have any specific reccomendations, but you could check out gregorian chant groups. Several of them don't bother with tenors.

Try a Russian men's choir, both for Russian Orthodox church music and folk tunes like "The Twelve Robbers" and "The Crag."

I have Akafist's Masterpieces of Orthodox Spirituality and Blow the Wind CDs (yes, this was when we had CDs) and they are awesome. (AFAIK, the group broke up, but their music is still out there.) See if you like, anon:
