What I think the OP is trying to say.

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-02-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think the OP is saying that choosing a woman choosing a person over a career is a bad person. I think it's more being fed-up with every single female character giving up what's usually a successful career in a field that she's passionate about. I know one, exactly one, main female protagonist who chose her job instead of her designated love interest, and that was negated in the sequel, to my immediate and popcorn-spilling displeasure.

OP, I'd recommend you watch more television (and fewer movies). More often than not, Status Quo Is God, so if a female character develops an attraction to another character, they'll either get together and she'll continue solving crimes or something, or she'll break up with him (it'll always be a him) in order to continue doing her job.

What's that one movie and sequel, by the way?

I have a feeling it's Miss Congeniality.

This is what I got from the secret too and I agree with you, ladies in TV have a much better track record of being able to have both a fulfilling career and love-life.

This. It's typically a romcom cliche that a woman is extremely successful then quits her job for the dude. The thing is, if someone put most of their life into something, they're probably pretty passionate about it, and giving it up completely for a relationship seems like it would cause some issues a few years after the movie, when both people have calmed down a bit.

Absolutely. If I gave up working in my field entirely, even if I did so willingly and happily, it would change me. I would be a different person, and there's no way to know if it would be a positive or negative (or neutral) change. Not everyone has a job like that, but most people have something significant that losing would cause them to change. I'd like to see that addressed more than I care about which gender does what. What really offends me here is the lack of acknowledgement that things a person is passionate about were never important or worthwhile just because they chose to give them up.

What kind of media is the OP consuming where every single female character is doing this?

Except, I don't like tv shows much and completely prefer movies ;__; Nice contained stories, but time and time again the awesome lady chooses love and it somehow negates her job.

Why.
