i hate how everyone assumes JKR wanting to talk about her stories/other people wanting to interview HER for information is simply a ~publicity tactic~

like

she has seven books, eight movies, has an entire section of a THEMEPARK dedicated to her novels, and (was) a billionaire until she willingly donated a large majority of her earnings to charity.

she doesn't need publicity for her books ffs. everyone already knows what HP is and likely will for a long, long time.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that she wasn't already stupidly, stupidly successful; obviously she is. You couldn't miss that fact. But...I still don't see why that means she can't want publicity? Granted it might not be the reason she made those statements (and I don't know much about her, so maybe that isn't her style), but whatever the reason she probably wanted people to talk about or think about HP again and she succeeded in that.

ironically it was mainly the media taking what JKR said in a random interview for some magazine (that hadn't even been released yet) completely out of context and poorly misinterpreting it.

the hermione-and-ron dilemma was actually very small in an interview that was almost entirely about the character of hermione in general.

Ah, that does sometimes happen; the media loves twisting things. I don't think I've read the full article so it's nice to know she wasn't only speaking about Hermione and Ron's relationship; the whole Hermione and Ron thing is what I heard, the other stuff got lost in all the noise.

i personally find it grating that an interview about a very strong female character got shuttered aside in a sea of "who should have REALLY gotten to marry her!!!"

It is a shame because not being in the fandom, that's literally the only thing I've heard about the interview. (Not that I don't love shipping myself, but...it isn't everything.)

IA that she wants people to talk about it again. It's probably just be my own sincere dislike of her and the books, but I get the impression that she wants to carry on being famous for being a good writer. Being rejected by everyone she sent her detective book to must have been a bit of a knock, and nobody gives a crap about her outside the Internet anymore. Why not stir up some wank?

Well I wouldn't put it like THAT, lol, but I don't hate her; I just think things are a lot quiter for her now and she's a writer, of course she wants people to be talking or thinking about her work, it would be more unusual if she didn't. But if someone wants an interview it's nice to accept, and it gets her name out there again; that's not a devious thing, but it does work in her favor I'd think. (One of the anons said the interview was mostly about Hermione and the marriage thing was only a very little part that got blown out of proportion. So if she did say it... I still think it was unnecessary, but at least that wasn't the main point she talked about.)
