Yeah, but usually, fictional women aren't choosing between starvation/eviction and love. Often they're choosing between a career they're passionate about/something they're really good at and love, which is kinda icky because there's that unspoken assumption that women can't have both fulfilling love lives and awesome careers, but there's nothing inherently wrong with going "fuck this job I'd rather fuck that hot guy over there." And it's pretty rare in modern stuff to have a love interest say "we can only be together if you quit your job and are totally financially dependent on me."
