Heard about that.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Wii U, and I'm not big on racing games. :/
I really wish they'd put them in SSB.
But at least they're getting more attention from Nintendo.

Curious, OP: How do you feel about them retconning it so the Koopalings aren't Bowser's kids anymore?

As an aside, I'm happy they're making a comeback, too. The animated versions will usually be the ones I associate the most with them (for better or for wose), but I'm a sucker for huge groups like that. XP

Yep. Miyamoto pretty much confirmed it from an interview way back from 2012.

Granted, the Mario series never really has had continuity like, say, Star Fox (and even that's been fudged up pretty bad no thanks to Command), but still. Ouch. D;

I was pissed off when I first heard about that, but I just don't believe it. My current headcanons are either that they fucked up too much and Bowser basically disowned them from his family (which is harsh, but better than them just being his "minions") or that they're adopted.

The animated ones I kind of consider their own separate thing. Their AU counterparts, if you will. Because I love the shit out of both incarnations of them for different reasons.

Uh, I couldn't even tell this was a Mario secret until I read it. Who are those and in which game did they first appear? I've only played the old ones.

They're the bosses from 3.

Whoa, I couldn't for the life of me recognize the bosses from 3 from that picture and I played that game a billion times. Then again, it was hard to see any details when everything looked pixelated and the TVs were tiny xD

But I guess they got that appearance in later stuff - wiki tells me it's from a cartoon?

It was actually their appearance in their concept art for 3, in the booklet and all the promotional materials. Some of them did get slight design changes (mostly their shell colors) in the New Mario series, though.

Their in-game sprites were completely different due to NES limitations.

The cartoons kind of just did their own thing with the design. The game characters did inherit some personality traits from the cartoon, though, like Roy (the World 5 boss / pink sunglasses one) being a "bully".
