As to the secret itself: tbqh, at this point I'm just uncomfortable with the Spiderman franchise (even though he's my favourite superhero). I find that comicverses have this weird tendency to be fluid, so fluid that you cannot quite pinpoint what the original canon is and where it ends. Canons blend and mix and transform into each other, which results in a lot of OOCness and nightmarishly long narratives rambling on and on for decades.
Which is why the idea to have Doc Ock take over the role made me lose all interest not only in this particular piece of the universe (because Parker's personality and relationships with other people were, to me, the main appeal), but also in a ton of related narratives that could be considered a part of the same world. Logically, I understand liking "a superhero Light Yagami", but I've never found antagonists likeable or even interesting when they are the focus of the story. Sure, I'd read it for the language and the narrating technique, but as far as I'm concerned, Spiderman=Peter Parker, and hence there is no Spiderman when there is no Peter Parker. It's a bit weird to read what is supposed to be a story about someone who isn't there.
I don't think I'll ever get how people can like antagonists. Substituting the protagonist with an antagonist has utterly destroyed two-thirds of this franchise for me.

Frankly I couldn't believe when I found out that Doc Ock was the 'new Spider Man'. Last I checked the man was kind of a psycho (as exemplified in this image?)
Peter Parker was such a sweet, relatable and quirky character who could, but generally abstained because he was a good guy, wipe the floor with you if you did something wrong, all the while quipping snarkily at your expense that it's a shame he's been pushed aside.
P.S: That expression is both scary and kinda...hilarious. xD

(Anonymous) 2014-02-15 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)whoops, guess it's otto as peter. I didn't read the secret very closely because I was distracted by the face.
