I've seen this happen a few times. It depends on what fandoms you're in, I guess?

Over the 14 years I've been in various fandoms, I've experienced the same.

I think it all depends on how you voice this opinion. "I don't read much slash, I prefer gen"? No problemo. Reviewing a slash fic by going on and on about how the couple would have been better as friends? Probably going to raise some hackles. It doesn't mean you are a homophobe, but people say stuff when they're pissed.
