I think it's weird as hell but I'm sure it's happened. There are a few fandoms (okay, there's Sherlock fandom) where saying you don't ship the popular m/m pairing will get you death threats.

Oh okay, I see the twisted logic now. "I prefer gen" = "I don't ship the popular m/m pairing and I read gen to escape the icky gay". Obviously I disagree but I think I see where it's coming from now.

But it's based on a logical fallacy.

Disliking one m/m ship =/= thinking all m/m ships are icky.

Yep. I'm not saying it's a good argument in any way, I just like to try to understand these things as well as I can because it's interesting to me.
