I see a lot of people casting Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch in Good Omens and I honestly don't see it at all. I don't even dislike the actors, it just doesn't make sense to me. But tumblr casts them in EVERYTHING

They are what Johnny Depp was a few years ago. People cast him as everyone and their dog as well. And right now, they always cast Idris Elba as the "token black guy" in everything.

haha, that's probably a pretty apt comparison. I saw it a lot with Orlando Bloom back in the day as well (you know, when people almost always made photoshopped banners with pictures of fancasted authors to go with all their fanfics). The Idris Elba thing makes me roll my eyes a bit as well. I like the guy well enough, but come on. I know there aren't as many black actors as there should be but there's enough that there's no reason not to be a little bit creative.

I think the Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp phase overlapped a bit because of PotC. But oh dear, all the bad photoshop X'''D

I love it the most when they pretend they're so very, very inclusive and progressive by casting Idris Elba in roles that would be white (or not-black) in the original canon. They probably don't mean anything by it, but it always looks a bit like "Look! I chose the only black actor I know as the fancast for this not-black character, I'm so progressive!".

The thing I don't understand is why they can't broaden out to some of the other black actors from The Wire.

Give Bunk or Lester Freamon or Omar a chance in your fancasts! It's not all about Stringer.

Holy shit, thank you. I saw that fake movie poster that was going around for a while, and it infuriated me.

Look, when you have brilliant fancasting options for Newton, Anathema, and Adam, you can come to me and say you're fancasting Good Omens. If all you have is Crowley and Aziraphale, then you're fancasting your own slashfic and it's dishonest to pretend otherwise.

Also, way to forget that Aziraphale in the book is chubby. God forbid anyone wank to a guy who's not a skinny bishie boy.

I always pictured Aziraphale as an older dude, so any fancast with an actor under 40 is an instant "Do Not Want" for me.

Crowley, on the other hand... I think he should look more conventionally attractive, which rules out Cumberbatch.

Hiddleston doesn't have the right look for either of them, but I could sort of imagine him as Newton, maybe.

I always thought Anthony Stewart head would make a good Aziraphale. Please don't ask me where it came from, but at one point it occurred to me that Will Smith could pull off an awesome (though admittedly, not suitably British) Crowley--he's just got that way of portraying nervous or nonplused characters trying to explain their way out of awkward situations (or conversely, deadpanning while other people are freaking out) that would work hilariously well in some of the book's scenes.

I'm afraid I've got nothing for Newt, Anathema or Adam, but Alaina Huffman would make a great War.

However: the books says Aziraphale has slightly chubby hands. That implies, but doesn't establish as a fact that the rest of him is equally plump, or to what degree. Actually almost nothing is said about Aziraphale's appearance at all, apart from the fact that he wore tweed, which I always found frustrating.

I have some vague headcanons for a lot of the characters but I draw a complete blank on Pollution (even though he's my favourite).
