Damn it Teen Wolf (SPOILERS for most recent episode)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-15 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped watching mid season 2. Have not watched any of S3. Then dark!Stiles happened. I saw the GIFS on tumblr. Had to watch the episode. Now I am gonna have to stick around. DAMN YOU TEEN WOLFFFFFF! And damn my love of dark characters.

This show has been haunting my dash since the day I created it basically.

Is it good? Or is it just a Twilight/Buffy crossover with werewolves at school? Because from what I've seen there's a close resemblance (I don't like Buffy and Twilight, so I wouldn't be happy about that.)

It started off as a teen drama with supernatural elements in it but now it's a horror-comedy series in the same vein as 80's monster movies like Fright Night, An American Werewolf in London and Lost Boys. If you like those type of movies, you'll like the series. (Personally, I think that was the creator, Davis' goal. He had to start off as a teen drama with supernatural elements to get it on air but now it's his show and he's going full on horror with the occasional comedic element in it.)

If you put it like this I'm almost curious. I feel like I should skip the first part.

I don't know if I can handle another show about teens having / being possessed by supernatural entities while dealing with homework on their free time... that actor from Road to Perdition sure got handsome though (goddamn that beard), but the other guy he always gets slashed with (Stiles?) I can't even look at for some reason. He must be gloriously gifted as an actor for me to ever take him seriously.

This is a really good way to describe it. And I agree that that seemed to be the goal! The only teen drama element left is the thing with Scott and Kira, and that's so (cutely, IMO) overblown that it almost seems like a parody of the first two seasons.

the thing with Scott and Kira

The way the Scott/Kira romance began was so reminiscent to his relationship with Allison in season one that I thought "This must be a homage." Scott likes him some cute new girls.

I picked it up again only for Gideon Emery after abandoning it halfway through season two and am now a bit sad that he seems to not appear anymore.

I think the dark!Styles now really showcases again that his actor is the best actor in the whole cast - by far. He is kind of wasted on it, I think.

I'm also positively surprised at the pronounciation of a lot of the Japanese terms.

HAHA, IT WAS INEVITABLE.

But seriously, the last couple of episodes are probably my favorite episodes of TW and if the rest of the season continues like this (please, please let it) I will be one very happy person. The serious, darker tone they have going right now is doing the show wonders, and letting Dylan play bad (and get to flex his acting chops) was a brilliant decision and whoever suggested it should get a raise.

I'm very so-so about villains -- sometimes I love them, sometimes I hate them, and sometimes I love to hate them, but Stiles being the antagonist is just delicious. It's everything to me.

Making Stiles the big bad was such a stroke of genius. I'm so accustomed to bad ongoing plot decisions on shows like these (kanimaaaaa) that I'm still shocked something so smart made it onscreen and is going so well. O'Brien has been fucking killing it so far.
elaminator: (Teen Wolf: Scott & Stiles - Brother)

I know. I love TW but it doesn't always make the smartest decisions, and many of the antagonists are downright terrible or laughable so it's nice to see them put so much effort into this. They aren't just pulling it out of nowhere, they built up to it and are focusing the entire last half of the season on it; Dylan is getting tons of screen-time (as he should, definitely in this situation) and it's making the change all the more believable. The only downside of this is I'll probably miss badass!Stiles when he goes away, and if Dylan has less to work with next season it's going to be a disappointment; he has so much good material to work with right now and is acting the hell out of every episode. It's so beautiful.

Totally agreed. He really is proving himself to be one of the best actors on the show and I'm glad the people in charge realized he would. Ugh, I know I'll miss this version of him, too, but at this rare we'll always have amazing reruns, haha.

Yea, that is true. Plus I don't want Stiles to suffer FOREVER (nor his family and friends), but it's fucking amazing drama. The scenes he's had with his dad and Scott (Omg that hug, hold me) have been incredible and I imagine they're only going to get better (or worse, whichever) before this thing gets resolved. Every week has me on the edge of my seat, as it should!

Yes yes yes. Dark!Stiles is...freaking awesome. He's doing an amazing job.

Right? Stiles has always been my favorite (and Dylan my favorite actor) so getting to watch him do something so different is delightful. And he's just so good at it, too; he does it effortlessly. I'm endlessly pleased with how well this half of the season is going; it's more than I could have hoped for.

Yes! There are so *many* issues with TW as far as continuity, motivation, and just - telling a fucking story that makes sense. But 3b is giving us such amazing stuff that i can watch with *much* less bitching.

Sheriff and Melissa, Scott and his dad (gene donor! HA!), Kira, Allison and her dad and *Isaac*, dear gods, Lydia being all psychically awesome (if confused) and Derek being all *smart* and even kinda happy, sometimes, and then...STILES. (And Kira's parents, and Lydia telling the twin he's a bad guy and she wants to be with a good guy....)
:)
elaminator: (Teen Wolf: Derek (crazy-pretty outline))

Re: Damn it Teen Wolf (SPOILERS for most recent episode)

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-02-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hot damn do I love the Sheriff and Melissa; they've had some lovely scenes together (especially that hospital one!), the only complaint is have about those two is they need even MORE scenes together. If they aren't going out by the end of next season I'll be massively disappointed. (Plus, alone they're very strong characters as well. The parental relationships in this show are some of the most interesting relationships in TW.)

I'm really liking Kira! (And her family.) I'm hoping she sticks around, and I'd like to see her power help save Stiles.

And the character development for Derek has been glorious. Just glorious. It makes me want to weep; I'm so glad that (at least at the moment) he's being competent as fuck and forming alliances with people, and just generally being more caring and less serious. It suits him well.

I'm really glad Lydia has had a chance to be more active in the storyline this season; before now the show didn't quite seem to know what to do with her, and I got tired of her screaming not going anywhere.

I love the Argents always. Allison is fab and Chris is my forever crush. They're a dream team. If I had one complaint about the show right now it would be that they don't have enough screentime, but I enjoy their appearances.

God, I hate Scott's dad something fierce, but it's been great seeing Scott stand up to his father and Melissa deal with him like the boss she is. I don't want him to stick around indefinitely, but for right now he can stay. I guess.

Oh, man, me too. Sheriff and Melissa together are awesome. Some of the *only* tv parents i really actually like, plus they're just awesome together. And yes - all the hospital/mri/Stiles is sick scenes were...heartbreaking.

As was the Stiles and Scott scene, *damn*, that hug, those looks.

Derek as he should have been! Instead of being batted around by forces he can't fight, he's got agency and smarts and *direction* and he seems to actually be enjoying his life. Plus the whole just being competent and *open* and just...yeah. All that.

According to rumor, season four will have a big Lydia arc, which makes me giddy. I love her so much, the twin notwithstanding.

I'm liking the Argents much more now that they're not so cardboard and cliche. And was it just me, or did Allison *and* Chris both give Isaac *looks* in that suit? A bit of 'hubba hubba' there, it was hysterical. (I like that Isaac seems to have found his footing, too.)

It would be awesome for Kira to get with her mom and kick some ass. We shall see!

Scott's dad is much too gleeful in his desire to take down the Sheriff (for what reasons i can't really fathom), but at least Scott and Melissa aren't being pushovers about him, so that's good. He could be eaten by a monster, though, i wouldn't mind. :)

lol yeah Dylan O'Brien is kicking ass and finally getting to show he can do more than dorky sidekick or comic relief. This part of S3 has been so outstanding and I hope it continues.
