I've noticed things like that too, and it always causes a double take from me.

For example, some of the songs from The Scarlet Pimpernel remind me a lot of the songs from The Hunchback of Notre Dame; I mean, listen to Madame Guillotine at ~0:27; doesn't it sound kind of like The Bells of Notre Dame?

And then there's the way that some of the songs from The Book of Mormon sound like songs from other musicals- though in this case, I think it was intentional? Like, You and Me (But Mostly Me) has some background chords (at around 0:30) that sound like Defying Gravity from Wicked, and I'm pretty sure that that's intentional, references how Defying Gravity is a power anthem of self-sufficiency. And it happens again in parts All-American Prophet, with patter that reminds me of Ya Got Trouble in The Music Man, and considering how Ya Got Trouble is all about a con man trying to bilk a city, I'm pretty sure it was intentional on the part of the creators of TBoM.

I just thought that it was kind of cool. :D
