Because there were no clearly defined female Jötunn in the movie, part of the fandom decided that all Jötunn are intersex (also because "lol, Laufey is actually the name of Loki's mother).

Actually from my little corner of fandom is kind of the opposite, the main reason being the Laufey-is-Loki's-mother-in-the-myths thing. The there not being female looking Jotunn in the movie I've never seen cited in the meta, only something that is mentioned now and then in fics.

The intersex Jotnar fics I enjoy more are the ones that deal with the world building rather than simple PWP. How it affects the way the Jotun society functions (in family, politics, war, the economy, etc), and how this tints their relationship with other Realms.

I am always of the opinion that world building and headcanons are great and people should be allowed to do what they want. I actually think the intersex Jötnar would be a clever meta thing. I just don't enjoy reading it, especially since I've seen it a few times too often as a cheap excuse to dump SURPRISE M-PREG into a story without tagging it. In the end, the intersex Jötnar worldbuilding thing is far too similar to A/B/O headcanons, which I dislike as well. So while I don't mind people having those headcanons, I wish there was more Jötnar worldbuilding that isn't based on the whole "intersex" thing.

I've seen "no one ever sees Jotun women" cited in fics, apparently because they aren't obvious in the movie. In the movie, we see the palace guard, who may very well all be male, and the army that invaded Midgard (who may also all be male) and tiny dark figures fleeing destruction who can't be seen clearly. So I don't get how movie fans (of which I am one) could therefore conclude there are no Jotun women. And I miss having female characters, even minor OCs, in those depictions of Jotunheim.
