It's rather hard to explain, really. Bernardo Soares, the 'author' of the book, is what Pessoa called a 'heteronym', a distinct personality partly based on Pessoa himself and partly not. The book was posthumously cobbled together from scraps of undated journal entries. It's full of musings on forgetting, the point of existence and the use of imagination and daydreams and whether they're better than reality.

It's rather self-indulgent, but worth it on the whole, I think. I'm reading the Costa translation, if you're interested.
