(Well, that sucks. That arc was one of the highlights of my college years.)

Yeah, it was retconned a long while ago, when they first brought Jean back after the Dark Phoenix saga. /looks it up Yep, retcon was in 1986.

Retconned, but Jean still has those memories (and Maddie Pryor's). I mean. If Jean weren't dead.

It's not that she still has those memories (as if she lived them )- she absorbed them along with Pryor's at a later date. IMO it was a lame "let's simplify this" move.
