Also. I feel like I'm probably the only one that ships Edgeworth/Maya so hard that it hurts. All the emphasis is on the "canon." *sigh*
I guess I'm glad I haven't been to any of the major fan-gathering spots yet.

(Maggey/Gumshoe is so adorable too...)

Honestly, people stressing the canon parts are usually just grasping for strings at something not even there. I'd do it for fun personally. :3

Well... what do you mean by "canon"? I mean, if you go by what's actually canon and in the game, the romances you have are:

Phoenix/Dahlia (in the past)
Gumshoe -> Maggey (which she might return)
Diego/Mia
Ron/Desiree

And obviously people ship a whole lot more than that. Nick/Edgey, Phoenix/Maya, Franziska/Adrian, etc... none of those are canon. But they're still hugely shipped (even if personally Phoenix/Maya kinda squicks me out :/)

Personally, though I do like to have a possible BASIS in canon, sometimes it's just I think that two people would work really well together. (For example, I think Franziska/Maya would possibly be one of the cutest things -ever- and they, uh, don't even interact much at all.) I'll be honest, I can't see Edgey/Maya (Maya in a serious romance with ANYBODY is sort of "do not want" personally, which is why my take on the aforementioned Fran/Maya is almost closer to a good friendship/very lighthearted as opposed to anything else) but sure, you're totally welcome to ship it~

But yeah, I got a bit sidetracked >_> I don't think everyone just follows "canon", not at all.

xD Edgeworth/Maya is absolute crack, which is why I love it a lot. It's also just the slightest bit cute to me, but that's just my taste.

And canon was in quotes because of the way I've heard people totally hype up certain things, like Nick/Edgey.

Well... I mean, there's certainly BASIS in canon for some (for Nick/Edgey, for example: how they're central to each others' lives, their dynamic relationship central to the plot of the first game if not the entire trilogy, the actions they take toward one another) ..which yeah, I like being able to support pairings with evidence. Not that it's CANON, but that it's POSSIBLE.

But anyone who tells you it's canon is talking out of their ass.

I really don't understand why so many folks worry about being accepted for their pairing tastes... I mean, I ship Edgeworth/Mia and Gant/Lana and other uncommon, non-canonish stuff, and more often than not get, "Oh, hey, I never thought of that"-type response -- even at less intelligent fan-gathering places like FFN. Have I just been really lucky or something?

And I've seen Edgeworth/Maya shippers around, you're not alone! I can definitely see Maya having a positive effect on Edgey and there's canon interaction to work with (1-4 springs to mind).

xD; Sadly, I don't read smut nor request it.

I'll be writing my own little awkwardly-fluffy Edgey/Maya fic to satisfy myself, though. :)
