22. See, I think people tend to equate "I wanna be like this fictional character" with "I dress and talk and move like them and essentially pretend to/want to be them". I equate it with "I admire their personality and a certain quality they have about them, and I want to be as helpful/smart/brave/witty/athletic as they are".

32. ...it's a Disney flick. Besides, I think Ariel learned from her stupid choices in the end, right? (Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been decades since I last saw the movie)

This is my non-secret: I prefer the happily-ever-after-fairytale ending in the Disney version to the deep tragic ending of the original. :P

IAWTC!!

I do respect the original and all, but the happy ending got me every time when I was a little girl. T_T

Second'd! I hated the original ending because she pined away for a prince that didn't give a rat's ass about her, goes as far as committing suicide for him, and guess what? He's still a douchebag. Better than murdering him, sure, but that always ticked me off.

DISNEY ENDING PLZ

ajsha ohgod the orignal. ;A; It made me cry like a loser when I was little.

I think I must have been an evil child, then, because I used to get MORAL OUTRAGE! over the ending. I'd tell my parents, little brothers, everyone! "SHE ACTUALLY DIED, YOU KNOW. DIED." Always my favorite ending - how can you go wrong with death? (I liked Ariel, mind)

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh GOD IAWTC! I understand the 'deep' message of the original, but as a child that upset me SO much. She does the right thing, and then SUFFERS for it? Like... what the hell!? 0_o

The original is a very beautiful story but the Disney movie is fun and it has some great songs in it, so they both win. Besides, can you imagine them trying to pass the original as a kids movie? I would be traumatized as a kid, regardless on how much I liked Ariel.
