Argh, the reaction to this secret is really pissing me off. "We just orz over it! No harm!"

You are making fun of people who want to come into your game and play with you. Worse, you are making fun of them essentially behind closed doors. It doesn't matter if it's gentle ribbing or full on flaming, that is a huge disrespect to whoever may be applying. It may the biggest piece of crap you ever did see, but you are still denying the potential player a very basic respect. If the criticism is so constructive, why can't you offer it to them? Would you really say the same things in chat as you would to their (internet) face?

I don't know. I'm admittedly not the most active player, but it really saddens me when I see that happening. I don't know if people could stop so easily, but it would be nice if they stopped to think for a second.

But uh seriously? People need to stop whining about apps getting skipped. No it doesn't mean people hate you, no it doesn't mean people are making fun of you, and uh surprise surprise, it doesn't mean we don't want you in our RP. Mods have lives, mods can be busy, mods might want to consult others on how the app looks, there are tons of genuinely good reasons that people need to consider.

Anyway, you may have noticed I said nothing about the length of time it takes to get to an app (which is still problematic), but rather the discussion in chat. Which has already been admitted to upthread! So I don't know where you're getting the "whining about apps getting skipped."

rofl maybe that was a bit much but I disgress, when new people come to check out our RP I'd like them to actually give it a go instead of listening to stuff some anon says but hey, you're the one commenting anonymously not me. \(O_o)/

Well, the point it looks like you're trying to make, and it looks like the point the secret is trying to make, is "apps get skipped and ignored because people are too busy laughing at them to even reject them" which isn't true. And I gave you many examples of why an app might be skipped for reasons other than the mocking of them and whatnot. The nonexisting mocking of, mind you, because dunno when orzing became the same thing as LOL IT SUCKS MAN THAT PERSON SUCKS LOL. Anyway, have fun with this anon I'm done here. /o/

Honestly? I'm pretty sure about 99% of us WOULD say it to their face. Considering what we say is like ":x The background needs a LOT more" and "I don't think the sample post gets across characterization at all," stuff like that.

Sorry, but I just don't see how that's equal to "OH MY GOD THIS PERSONS APP SUCKS LOL lets talk about them behind their back"

It's only myself, but I feel like I don't have the right to give concrit to appers, because I'm not a mod. When the mod rejects them, the mod should give reasons. HENCE us talking about it in chat. That way they know what to say to the person; and when they reject apps, they tend to say the things we discussed in chat.

So uh. We do say it to their face, and I still do not really think we are making fun of them secretly.

... Uh, but I'm still not arguing about apps being skipped. Although I don't care very much, I completely understand how annoying it is; they sometimes they get burried forever, not just one or two pages back. ):

I'm afraid I get a different impression. It just seems rude, to me, and is basically meaningless without offering the advice. Leaving it unsaid only leads to the same bad app, y'know?

But it comes down to a matter of perspective in this case, I guess! It will always make me uncomfortable, but I am clearly in the minority, so I will continue to not participate in that aspect while enjoying the others.

I do see your point though. :x;; In the things being unsaid. The apping process IS something we need to work on--the majority of the RP will admit to it. There are a lot of other games who have a much, much better application system set up.

But another thing is that, if a lot of people start replying to the app with possible corrections, it might seem kind of... scary? to the new apper. I mean, if it was me, I'd kinda get freaked if a bunch of people who aren't the mod started telling me that I need more in my sample post and stuff without me asking them myself. Which is why I let the mods handle the concrit to the apps.

But, like you said, it's... basically perspective in this sort of thing. orz

Mm, no, I get what you're saying! The line between constructive and not seems a lot thinner in dogpile stiuations. But that sort of underscores the problem with the crit- it's unsolicited. The worst kind of advice!

I don't have any magical solution, but maybe once an application is rejected, offer the chance for crit? That way they choose to improve and demonstrate they really want to play, and you gain a new player! \o/ But the advice of an anon is crap on the internet, aha.

Anyway, so long as the problems are known, it's better than not!

Hmm, I like that. But it might be best if people sent it via email or an IM. :o We have enough extra commentary on the app post as it is, and usually makes it more difficult for the mods to accept/reject apps. XD;;

As long as we do our best to change the problems into something better. \o\
