Huh. I can see why people would be insulted by that. I'm not a Sterek shipper but I hate when people try to do the whole "you're not watching for the right reasons" or police how people should do fandom.

that is annoying but he's being called a homophobe which doesn't have much to do with the whole "policing fandom" thing. Which...he's also not doing, since he didn't say that people shouldn't ship it, just that there are way more important reasons to be watching.

Yeah, not getting into this here. We obviously have different opinions on this. Though I will say anyone who calls him homophobic just from that is someone that I would automatically unfollow for being an idiot.

Aw, man, on the one hand, I can see how some fans would be offended by that but on the other hand I can see how the actors on the show would be frustrated if they love their show's plot lines, want to discuss it with the fans but all the fans want to talk about is some non-canon pairing like it is true. Teen Wolf is basically a horror-comedy and I swear, there are fans out there who would love nothing more than to turn TW into a Twilight-type supernatural romance.

I guess we can all learn from this mess that you should never play along with the fans, like they did in the beginning: in the end it will always bite you in the ass.

...you still shouldn't bait fans with any ship if you aren't prepared to get shit for it when the fans realize it was all bullshit? especially when the baiting is queer baiting.

but like. it was so fucking obvious it was queerbaiting rather than, you know, a legit canon ship happening. so obvious. how is this a surprise?

I think it's worse for this particular bit of fandom because the actor who plays Derek loves the whole Stiles/Derek thing, talks about it, encourages it, and in general is very cool about it. So the Scott-guy being all 'it's strange and twisted' plus (apparently) jumping in and saying that when the question was *for* him is just pissing some people off.
