I'm sorry, if you ask a group of people for recommendations with one exception/caveat and they only give you recs for that specific thing, it's rude. If you list 4 fantasy novels and 1 of them is your favorite EVER example of the exception listed, it's one thing because the other 3 are valid choices. But if you only provide something they don't like, it comes across as petty, defensive (the need to prove its validity or justify your enjoyment of it), and rude.

It's like saying you want sushi rolls but not California rolls because you don't like avocado. And then being given a big plate of only California rolls.
