How good is the show, what is the show/fandom like, etc.? I'm thinking about joining a new fandom, and I've heard a..variety of things about Hannibal. (Though apparently a lot of the fandom is straight up crack?) And there was a flaming deer or something at some point? (Please tell me this thing didn't veer supernatural, if it did then I'm just going straight to Sleepy Hollow).

The show is good, but very, very dark. The acting is amazing, and there are some interesting twists to the plot/fleshing out of the background of the Hannibal and Will story. There is some imagery, like the Ravenstag, but it is all products of Will's mind/imagination, not the supernatural.

The fandom has some issues, but generally its awesome. Most of them don't take themselves seriously at all, and the official tumblr often appreciates and jokes with the fans. Like here where it says "*slinks up next to you* *wraps arms around you in an ambiguously dangerous yet loving way* You all are too good to us! What would we do without the Fannibals!?" and tags it "We're going to make you all pizza!". Or this ode of appreciation. Plus,

cleolinda (the author of Movies in 15 minutes) did amazing recaps of the first season, among other people doing things.

I don't recommend it to everyone, as the show really is dark and disturbing, but if you like that kind of thing, I think it is very good.

Always love the dark and disturbing, so I'll definitely keep this in mind. :)

The show is excellent, in my opinion. Great acting and lots of pretty/interesting actors. Dark, but also very beautifully filmed. Gorgeous pictures, gorgeous colours, gorgeous music. If you like things like that, definitely give it a try. And nope, nothing supernatural - and without wanting to spoiler you, I can only say it makes all sense towards the end.

The fandom...well, I only have contact with the fanfic/fanart side, and that's a mixed bag. It's hard for me to find quality fic, but it's there and it's awesome. There's also quite the amount of crack and crack-played-straight. The art is generally pretty great, though.
