Guardians of the Galaxy

So, what did people think of the trailer? Personally, I thought it looked awesome. But I know nothing about the comic, so I'm not sure if it actually looked faithful.

I know nothing of the comic other than it's existence. I thought the trailer looked awesome and it's the first film in a long while that I'm looking forward to!

I too know nothing about the comic but EEEEEEEEE IT LOOKS SO COOOOL!

It looks like it's having a ridiculous amount of fun with itself, which I always approve of. And damn, I was not expecting Chris Pratt to clean up that nice.

If you like cleaned up Chris Pratt, you should watch Everwood.

From what I know, it's meant to be a comedy (or at least the comics are a comedy?). IDK, comedy as a genre comes into play somewhere with Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'm not the best judge, because I admittedly still resent it for being made instead of a Black Widow origin movie. But it'll probably be okay, from what I saw.

I just liked all the idiots I follow in tumblr who were like HOW DARE THEY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT A CARTTON RACCOON BUT NOT A BLACK WIDOW MOVIE and are now creaming themself over the trailer.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Being annoyed that Marvel's more willing to take a risk on making an absurd movie about alien raccoons and talking trees than to make a movie with a female lead doesn't actually render someone incapable of realizing that the visuals in the trailer are pretty goddamn stunning.

I'm freaking HYPED. I can't even with all this Ooga Chaka. So worth staying up for, imho.

I will freely admit that I've largely been Indifferent to Meh as far as the MCU goes (I've only supported the Thor movies b/c I want Beta Ray Bill in Thor 3, haha), but GOTG was my jam in the comics for a while, and I'm *stoked* they are making a movie of it. So awesome.

(And nnnnnghhh, I'm hoping there's some sweet Rocket/Groot stuff coming soon, because I ship that so hard. Please, don't let me down, fandom!!)

I am incredibly excited and thrilled. I started laugh/cheering ten seconds in and never stopped. It looks like everything I wanted it to be. YAAAAAY!

At first I was kind of like "Noooooooo, not ANOTHER thing with a bunch of dudes and one token chick!"

But then I stopped to think for a moment and realized that this is a movie in which Vin Diesel plays a tree. That more than makes up for the sausagefest.

I kind of wish DC and Marvel would stop ripping each other off.

The name was a pretty clear knockoff of Guardians of the Universe (who predate the Marvel team by about 9 years) while the team itself in its original incarnation was pretty blatantly a Legion of Superheroes clone, right down to being set in the 31st century.

No opinion on the movie, but it's pretty obvious Marvel is really digging into the bottom of their IP barrel since they've just about exhausted everything they can do with their A-listers. I mean, come on -- Ant-Man? Really? That'd be like DC putting out a movie about, hell I dunno, B'wana Beast.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy

(Anonymous) 2014-02-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ant-Man isn't the Marvel equivalent of B'wana Beast, though. He's more like the Marvel equivalent of Hawkman. Historically quite prominent, but no one really gives a shit about him.

Just giving an example -- I hadn't heard of Ant-Man before, though admittedly I don't follow Marvel (as everyone here well knows.)

I presume Ant-Man's history isn't a convoluted fucking mess like Hawkman's, though? (I guess Wolverine's got that covered.)

It makes me sad that Groot is so short and humanoid.

I've been a Groot rooter since his first appearance, and even back then he was a good 15 feet tall. (Yes, I mean Tales To Astonish #13. It was in a reprint volume of Kirby's monster stories that I had as a kid.) The totally inhuman size disparity is one of the things that helped make the GotG comic feel properly ALIEN, you know?

Trailer is definitely misleading. How do I know? We didn't see any of the other main characters talk, nor see the villians.

I have faith in the director mind, I'm not worried about the movie, but I'm worried about people who got suckered into showing up for something else being dissapointed (not that I think the rest of this movie won't have fun with things)

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy

(Anonymous) 2014-02-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well I thought that Chris Pratt looked nice in it, although for some reason I'm not 100% with his dialogue, seems a bit too...light/jovial/flippant. Not sure why I noticed it, characters like that never really bother me, so idk. Doesn't bother me enought to be a detractor though. Also wondering why he's Jason Quill and not Peter Quill.

I thought Groot would look a bit more like a tree but whatever. Wondering what Bradley Cooper will sound like as Rocket. For some reason Drax looked really CGI to me. Also, the actress playing Gamora made me immediately wonder if she was Alanis Morissette (she isn't). Also, the Guardians were repeatedly called outlaws, by the Nova Corp? and by Quill, wondering if they are really outlaws or what the situation is; probably reading a bit too much into it. I liked that...not Jonathan Hyde actor (guy behind John C. Rielly) was in the trailer, he should be interesting in the movie.

Action looked really fun and crazy, hopefully this will be an awesome sort of space epic. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to this movie now, and I was pretty interested in it before this trailer so hopefully this should be good. Hopefully they appear in Avengers 3 so that can help take down Thanos.

/Is this long enough teacher?

I too know nothing of the comics but that trailer made it look like it could be some good fun, I'll be going to see it certainly.

Exactly, what other reason would you need?

(I don't know the comics but Rocket alone is enough for me to want to see it. Plus, any movies Marvel release right now, I'm here for.)

But I'm also excited because hot aliens.

I have never heard of the comic until they mentioned a movie being made. I saw the trailer and was intrigued by it, but wasn't sure if it would be any good. I've now watched the trailer several times and I like it more and more. Also looked up some of the director's old movies and I am slightly more convinced that this movie will be as entertaining as it is promising to be. As long as it is funny and ties well into the established marvel universe. I don't really care. To be honest, I was set on seeing this movie as soon as I saw Benicio del Toro in the bonus scene at the end of Thor the Dark World.
