(Anonymous) 2014-02-20 12:42 am (UTC)(link)Yeah I definitely don't see it either. For all of the flaws inherent in the era, I don't think anyone can credibly deny that Matt Smith made Eleven unique. Especially considering the terrible writing he had to deal with as he did so.

And a lot of the characteristics that we think of as general to the Doctor (regardless of incarnation) are things that entered the canon from Pat and the Peter Bryant-era writers: pretending to be foolish/childlike, blustering and/or joking in the face of danger then saving the day at the last second, and occasionally manipulating the companions (usually for their protection). Just off the top of my head.
